Who cares if he leaves we got plenty of cb"s... Ireland sucks at soccer and probably wont make a wc in the next 50yrs.. Maybe this yr is their best chance.. I would be more worried losing mcbean to Ireland than Shane..

Lol. McBean over O'Neill. C'mon that's just absurd. O'Neill while playing in a different position is one hell of a CB already( The US hasn't produced many Cb's as good as O'Neill). Mcbean has a ways to go and many better FWDS in front of him at the USMNT's disposal.

Sorry I wouldn't lose much sleep over Mcbean going to Ireland.

Mcbean over O'Neill is a farce. Target forwards arent in short supply. Losing O'Neill would be a loss because he was a staple of the youth teams and is starting for his club. He is one to look forward to in the future. Just hope he doesnt feel like his good work is geing unnoticed.

It's pretty odd if a guy who just started for the US at the U20 WC three months ago feels he is being left out & would consider a switch

Right now, he's a favorite for the 2016 Olympics

If he is this willing to accept an Irish callup just months after being given a starting spot for the US team, he should have declined the US U20 WC invite

Can't understand how any human being would voluntarily play for Ireland if they had a second choice. Might as well play for Scotland (even worse).

Come on shane dont be impatient dude is only 20 this is pretty much been his rookie year in mls. I hope klinsi gets him a nice callup in january camp. Otherwise if he chooses ireland its on him but he shouldn't be expecting a world cup appearance from ireland anytime soon. Honestly if george john cant get a callup i doubt o neill gets a callup until january.

Why all the hate for Ireland? They consistenly compete for world tournements. In 2010 the only reason they didnt go to South Africa was a blatant handball by France. This cycle they still have an outside shot (will probably come up 3 points short of playoffs). They qualified for 2012 UEFA. They also just came short of the final qualifying for recent U19 & U21 teams so they are obviously talented (they have several EPL & recent EPL teams players in their youth system). Ireland isnt that much below USA in the world pecking order. Hed get 2013 UEFA qualifying and possibly UEFA 2016, if he wants to play in europe thats some good exposure. He'd be a tough loss so hopefully he doesnt

Yet it's ok for players like JAB, Chandler, AJ, potentially Green to do it to their respected home countries and leave for the US lol??

The difference is pretty obvious. JAB turned down the chance because he wasnt sure yet. AJ and Chandler declined camp invites until they were sure.

Thats not the point. You said that someone was wrong for bashing Oneil if he played in U20 World Cup with us and defected to Ireland in october in that its no different that JAB, Chandler, & AJ. Im just pointing out that the original anger over an Oneil defection was because he JUST represented us at a major tounrement. JAB, Chandler, & AJ didnt do that so its not comparable

Few players have done that for usa. They played with the usa under 20 world cup then opted for another country, 1 player that comes to mind is Gerson Mayen he plays for el salvador now, Another is arturo alvarez..
