guys - its not all or nothing. at this point in the cycle every camp is gold as far as building for the WC. you want to keep some consistency with guys that you know will be there. but you can also bring in, and play, some of the most deserving guys that have not been getting much PT.

we have youth teams to bring in full rosters of young guys. this team is for the best of the best and in a WC year, more than any other year in the cycle, you are not concerned about "building for the future", you are concerned about looking at guys you think might help you in brazil - and it does not really matter if they are 21 or 27

I'm not saying that we should only put in a roster of youngsters, or only of probably WC starters, but like the major players on the world stage, start to incorporate likely future callups/starters with people they would likely be playing with. IE, leave out some of the older starters, but the 25-27 range and under stays, any positions you don't have filled put a U23 player in there and see how it goes.

Like don't call in Duece or LD for these qualifiers, but do call in Bradley and Mix (likely 2018 starters)...get Brooks back into that CB pair, but pair him with Besler or Cam. Get a couple of young guys in to play with the starters and get a feel for how well they can deal with it.

Thus Luis Gil has no place on the WCQ roster. He could not add anything for Brazil.

Every cycle has 2 goals.
1) Qualify for World Cup
2) Get team best prepared to best possible World Cup team.

Succeeding at goal 1 should be all that matters at first. Once it does happen it should be all about goal 2. Here is how I think these qualies, and remaining camps should be taken into consideration.

JK should look at each positions pool and ask him self this question about each player.

Will it benefit him and the team to gain this game experience against this foe? In other words can I help this player get better than he is now by playing him against Jamaica and Panama.

Take RB for example. Is Brad Evans going to be anymore or less prepared for Brazil by playing or not playing in october? I dont think so. Would Chandler? Yes. Lichaj? Yes. Yedlin? Yes. If Chandler, Lichaj, or yedlin achieve their optimal potential between now and Brazil? If the answer is again yes then they should play over Evans.

Same as Beasley at LB, Jones at CM, EJ at backup striker/winger, and Dempsey at CAM. We need Jozy to stay in rhythm (Id argue for our World Cup success he has to be our best player) and for Landon to continue to re-acclimate to international competition. Besler, Omar, Cameron all need time to learn CB next to each other (or Brooks).

Thats how I wish JK would take this camp, and the November one. Get the player pool the most ready so he can select the best players for Brazil.

I agree with what you are saying with the exception of Jozy...he needs to stay at Sunderland to quickly get acclimated to a new manager. Nothing is to be gained by having him fly back for qualifiers that mean nothing. If he is here at our camp he may miss out and become a peripheral figure at Sunderland.

Come on man, couldn't add anything that is a stretch, and Michael Parkhurst is the one who should not have a place in the World Cup Roster. I'm not trying to sound like a Luis Gil fanboy but he has had an excellent season as well as other young MLS players like Yedlin (who I think should be called in immediately.) they have demonstrated the consistency on regular basis which is what you look for in young talented players. One more thing how many people thought Herculez Gomez and Edson Buddle were going to be on WC roster a year before......... exactly zilch absolutely nada, I rest my case.

I haven't read through this entire thread but Beasley's hamstring injury is not serious and he is expected to be back with Puebla on Sunday.

Could Gil become a better option in MF for Brazil then Beckerman, Sasha, Mixx? I agree so Im ok with him being there. Yedlin could be a better option than Evans as well. I always look at it like who are the weakest guys if we had a healthy 23 man roster? After identifying them do we have any young (U23) guys who potentially could be better than them in 9 months? If the answer is yes then we absolutely should be going to the youth in games where wins and losses dont matter. Again, will Evans be better in Brazil by playing these CONCACAF games? I dont think so. We already know EJ can score against CONCACAF foes. Why bring him in? Its Jurgens job to have US best positioned to make a run in Brazil. He should take the opportunity to do so.
