I dont know how you can say he'll easily become a part when he hasnt even been invited to a camp yet. Bradley has one of 3 CM spots sewn up for next cycle. If Clint or Landon sticks around theres the CAM spot. Look at the rest of the competition for a CM spot (some of these guys may not play to MB's strengths but Im assuming a coach would move MB back to Jones's current role if he found the right partner:

Mixx
Green
Flores
Lletget
Corona
Pelosi
Sonora
Johannson (as a CAM/under neath striker)

Aside from Mix and Corona, none of those guys have played a professional game (I'm not including AJ who doesn't play midfield). Gil is way ahead of all of the others - he has 90+ pro games and is improving significantly every year

Is it that far fetched to see Gil be shutout in the near future? How long before he get stired of waiting?

Have you guys seen the MLS 24 under 24 list for this year? It's awful! Gil is not on the list? In addition to Gil, here's some examples of other players under 24 that haven't made the list:

Joe Benny Corona (he only has 11 caps for the senior team)
Brek Shea (a mere 23 caps for him) but at least they gave him an honorable mention
DeAndre Yedlin
Bobby Wood
Paul Arriola
Alonso Hernandez
Andrew Wooten

I don't know these guys can be left off of the list of our 24 best players under the age of 24 and still have it taken seriously.

The full list is split between two different articles:

Uhm, the full list isn't out completely yet. The remaining 5 will be out Friday, and the list is for MLS players only.

Luis Gil is ahead of Flores, Lleget, and Pelosi none have them played a single pro game yet will Gil has now played 4 professional seasons. I think ppl underestimate his potential because chose to play in MLS instead of Arsenal but I think playing takes precedent than riding the bench for some European team trying to crack the first team which none of the aforementioned players have done.

You're right, he is ahead of those guys, but most people don't underestimate him. As of right now, I have him pegged as Michael Bradley's heir.

Mixx Diskerud showed vs. Bosnia that he cannot play against top quality opponents. He was being manhandled, badly.

Again I like Gil but he has a ways to go to be able to be counted on as a USMNT lock. Castrol Index has given ratings for every game in MLS this year. There top 5 are Di Vaio, Keane, Ricketts, Magee, Neagle (you can see it correctly picks most of the best players). Gil is ranked 116th. For comparison sake Fagundez is ranked 8th, Jack mac 9th. Jose Villareal is 62nd. He has a ways to go

Some will argue that the players that set up the goals for 4 of the 5 top guys are actually the better players. It's all subjective. Just watch the guys play. Nobody is saying Gil should be on the USMNT now, nor is anybody saying he is a lock for the team later on down the line. I think he will be, but nothing is guaranteed.

Against Bosnia's top team in the first half, he was not man handled. My guess is if he gets that PK call most of you are singing a different tune. Also, Mix was playing the CAM role, essentially making the 4-2-3-1 a 4-5-1. Mix plays that position entirely different than Dempsey and Donovan, which is something that our forwards, wings and CMs arent used to. He had some decent moments, he had some not so decent moments. We werent outplayed in the first half, just gave up two crappy goals on an EJ turnover and corner kick.

The flick at the top of the 18 to himself against Mexico is something we never see as USMNT fans. Most of our guys wouldnt even have the idea, or even the balls to try it, let alone execute it. This is why I like Mix over most of our "fringe" guys, he plays to win. The rest are too scared to make a mistake, and play not to lose.

Is he a starter? No. But he should to be on this squad.

Rowe and Klute are snubs but a very good top 5 . All who will most likely be US internationals. (Crossing fingers for Fagundez and Nagbe)

Huh, Diskerud wasn't being man handled.

Anyway it's funny to see fans pining for their favorites, and rating USMNT players against eachother.

I like Gil, I like Diskerud, I like Lletget, and I like Corona. All players that have very good traits. And all that will be in the USMNT player pool during the 2018 WC cycle.

Actually the problem is there are a bunch on this thread calling for just that.

Diff than Parker. Gil will easily become a part of USMNT in future. Parker most likely won't become a part of the GMNT in future. Can I get a TMNT reference?

and

Yeah, thinking it unlikely he reps Mexico.
Gil isn't far down the depth chart though, wouldn't be surprised to see his name tacked on the October Roster.

AND
Original post from Know Nothing

Well he was one of our best, if not the best player at the U-20 WC for us. With LD and Dempsey getting up there in age, it may be worth cap tying him against Jamaica.

one more??? Ok

Original post from Tylercocinas

Luis is so heavily invested in the US set up and literally right on the cusp of being called into camps, albeit fringe camps, for the USMNT. Mexico likely just doing their due diligence.

4 people that are calling for him to be part of the national team now or very soon. Just trying to get people to pump the breaks a little bit. Its not like hes a 16 year old starter for barca. If he joins Mexico thats his choice and US will lose nothing, since it has gotten 0 caps and has plenty of depth to survive without him.

Biggest problem with this board.

A lot of people on here seem to have a player that they're obsessed with and then try and rep them like they're the guy's agent. When Klinsmann doesn't pick this player, he is an idiot that needs to be fired. We all know who these posters are. The funny thing is though usually these players aren't USNT calibers (Adu, Lichaj, etc.) or are on the bubble (Kljestan). It's like this for the roster/lineup selection in general...when JK doesn't pick their exact team they want him fired. I've never met any fans like this. A team like Argentina, for example, has way more players to choose from and countless possible lineups but people don't call for Sabella's head when he picks Palacio over Higuain or Tevez (a much more absurd decision than picking Parkhurst over Lichaj). As long as the results and quality of play are good, the fans are happy.

Seeing people argue about the quality of the different leagues is pretty funny too...watching people debate about whether the Austrian, Belgian, Norwegian, or Danish league is the best is hilarious because none of the posters here have watched enough games of any of these leagues to have a strong opinion about it.

I think Torres is by far the most underrated pool and it's a huge shame he has been totally misused on the national team (has played a grand total of 45 minutes at CM, his natural position). I'm dumbfounded that people here don't even consider him to be one of our possible CM's. But you don't see me posting about it all of the time.

On topic though Gil seems to me to be 100% 'merican so I doubt we'll lose him. We'll see how he turns out but I'm not quite as high on him as some people are (I was four years ago but now I don't know). Hopefully I'm wrong. Pretty cool though that Mexico is trying to poach our players. Shows how far we've come.

If we lose him oh well it would be a lost but not as big as people make it seem... We have several young players that could play that position and some might be even better.. We are loaded with young talent is only a matter of time until they emerge, by the time 2018 rolls around usa will most likely have over 20 CM players fighting for a starting spot in Russia..

Luis Gil said he has not personally heard from Mexico. When asked if that would interest him: "Not really."
