That was the exact roster I drew up in my Bio class today. Except Zusi for Beckerman.

I think Diskerud was at the Jan camp but was sent home before the Canada game.

I don't like jones and beckerman together mainly because I don't think Jones is good enough at going forward in attack to be the more advanced of the two midfielders. I'd rather Diskerud-Jones, especially at home.

USsoccer.com says that the Jamaica game is on ESPN but it's not listed in my Comcast TV listings except on Univision. Is anybody actually seeing this game listed under ESPN on your TV guide?

All US home games will be shown on either ESPN or ESPN2.

Turns out its only on ESPN3. What a joke. Why did ESPN even bother buying the rights to this game if they were going to show NCAA Football Cincinnati vs Temple (I thought these schools only played basketball) and a NASCAR pre-race instead?

I'm guessing here but maybe they downgraded the game after we qualified? But if that's the case they shouldn't air Friendlies either because they are also meaningless games.

Really disappointing ESPN. With that said ESPN3 is still a way better option than BeIn.

ESPN 3? What the hell. Oh well I get it, so it doesn't matter.

If the US was still needing a win to secure a WC berth you know that game would be on ESPN 2.

I am hopeful that one day USMNT games will be shown on FOX or big NBC or ABC. You have to think NBC may start clamoring for USMNT WC qualifying games. Should be interesting to see what happens after 2014 with FOX getting the 2018 and 2022 WC TV rights. Strong possibility FOX snaps up the rights for the USMNT's home qualifying games and friendlies for the 2018 and 2022 WC cycles.

Actually, I would bet my bottom dollar USMNT games will be shown on FOX for the 2018 and 2022 WC cycles. This will give Gus Johnson even more time calling soccer.

Have to say I won't be too disappointed with the USMNT leaving ESPN in the future. They can have the Mexican rights all they want.

As much as we tout the growth of soccer in the US and it's definitely growing these TV c*ck ups are really disheartening (between this, Traffic's PPVs in the last round, BeIn's awful coverage - in game highlights, tape delays, starting the game late on the tape delay and showing the highlights of the US game that they were about to show when the tape delay was scheduled to air, etc.).

I lived in Europe for five years and coming back to the US, the sport is like night and day from when I left. English teams are now known to casual sports fans and not just Man U, Liverpool and Arsenal but teams like Tottenham, Fulham, Newcastle United, etc. The MLS is now legitimate challenge to the NHL as the fourth biggest pro sports league in the US and people grasp the concept of relegation/promotion and the Champions League. Back in 2003 ESPN should one Champions League a week and it was always the Galacticos of Real Madrid irrespective of who they were playing.

For a comparison UFC has been able to skyrocket with good TV deals in such a short period of time. They now have stacked cards on Fox and good cards on Fox Sports 1 plus use the Ultimate Fighter as a reality show to promote their events. To be fair the MLS has ensured that it's regularly on TV between ESPN, NBC, Univision and local channels but its still inspiring what the UFC has been able to achieve over the past 3-4 years.

SUM and US Soccer have already announced that any bid to acquire the USMNT rights will remain tied to also committing to show MLS matches. My theory is that NBC will be the home of USMNT for the duration of the forthcoming TV contract set to be negotiated around the WC, unless ESPN steps up.

That being said, ESPN executives have expressed their disappointment at losing their other soccer properties so I could see them making a nice offer to MLS to ensure they stay relevant in the US in the pro soccer landscape aside from their El Tri matches.

Carlisle just said on Twitter game will be on ESPN. It would be criminal if the game wasn't on TV.

Not a bad theory. Here is mine:

Both ESPN's and NBC sports MLS TV contract runs it's course after the 2014 season. Fox desperately wants to tap back into soccer. Which means FOX will definitely put in a very good bid to acquire MLS and USMNT TV rights. MLS and the USMNT will have more channels to air games i.e. big FOX, FOX sports 1, and FOX sports 2. Potentially MLS could have multiple games shown each week with FOX. Now ESPN could potentially miss out on both MLS and USMNT games because NBC has made it a priority to keep MLS going forward. Both FOX and NBC's coverage is much better than ESPN's. My theory is that ESPN will be left out in the cold come the renewed contracts after the 2014 season. FOX having acquired the WC TV rights has a leg up on both ESPN and NBC to air USMNT games during the 2018 and 2022 WC cycles. Either way I forsee ESPN losing all domestic rights to soccer. They will be left with Liga MX and the Mexican National team. Just a theory.

orozco has replaced gonzo on roster. id say there is a 99% we will see back line of:

beasley-besler-cameron-evans

brad evans...
- is not a RB
- candler and lichaj are decent (at least compared to evans) RB options (and their teams do not play this week)
- seattle is battling for a supporters shield and has not 1, but 2 games this week

who can explain this?

the only explanation is that JK wants to get BE more reps at RB because HE DOES NOT ACTUALLY PLAY RB.

that is fine is you have really poor RB options. chandler and lichaj are not poor RB options AT LEAST COMPARED TO EVANS by any stretch of the imagination

This is going to come back to bite Klinsmann in the ass. This was a perfect chance to get Chandler and/or Lichaj into the mix prior to the WC. Instead, he wastes a couple more games with Evans at RB. If he honestly thinks Evans is a viable option at RB for the World Cup, we're in for a short one.

We're setting up to be just like Italy or France last world cup. Looks like we are going to bring in middling veterans (Evans, EJ, Beckerman) instead of youngsters who could provide sparks. Wont be surprised if its a dissapointing Brazil

The USMNT classic with Mexico was a tale of two halves, with the U.S. drawing 2-2 with Mexico.
