Great. At a minimum they should replicate Liga MX schedule in that when El Tri plays the league is off and the games are made up midweek.

The article touches on this as a loss of revenue and I agree but personally looking at a team like Seattle as an example I'd rather see a full strength team midweek than a team without EJ, Evans and Dempsey on the weekend. Maybe its just me.

not sure 28 is really enough games.

by breaking conferences into divisions you can add a 3rd game against your division - 4 extra games for 32 total

when you get up to 24 teams, this will not be neccessary

20 team league
west
- van, sea, pdx, rsl, colorado
- lag, chv, sj, fcd, hou

east
- nyrb, nyfc, ne, phi, dc
- mon, tor, skc, chi, cbus

does not have to affect playoffs - just go with division winners + next 3 best record in each conference

I'm not against going to fewer games, but I don't see why we can't make up more games mid week now. Yes teams who are in the CCL will have a tough time making up games late in the season but they will have open mid week dates early in the season. The only way this doesn't really seem viable without cutting games is if a team is in the CCL Quarters, group stage, and makes a deep run in the Open Cup.

Maybe it's just my experiences of Seattle still drawing big numbers for mid week MLS matches and 10k for CCL matches. I can see the problems that mid week games would pose in markets without as big of a fan base. However cutting the games down would probably lead to about as many weekend home matches as just making up some games during the week because of an international break.
