Jzaval01, why should Gooch give up his career when there are employers that are clearly willing to pay him for his services? His level of play has decreased and so has his salary.

Professional athletes have a limited span to earn their keep, they need to take advantage of it while it lasts.

I don't see many teams in mls taking a chance on him. If a someone does they will want to sign him for the minimum. I doubt gooch wants to make 39k a year. He wont get any game time at all at Wednesday, I believe they won 6-0 today no way they will shuffle their rotation any time soon.

Proposing that Gooch could only make $39k is another one of your classic statements.

Bocanegra is on $260k, Goodson is on $340k. I would expect Gooch to be on a similar contract to Bocanegra if he were to join the MLS.

Bocanegra, Goodson were playing good in Europe when they.came to mls. Gooch hasnt had any significant playing time like in 3 yrs. I doubt any team would want to pay a player 100k plus and most likely never see the field. Im sure both Goodson and bocanegra would of easily started for qpr.

I won't be surprised if Gooch is on Klinsmann's March friendly roster.

I don't see it, but i do think that JK will hold him in "1st reserve", so that if Gonzo, Besler, Brooks or Goodson get injured, he'll be on the plane.

Brooks vs Gooch is interesting for the March friendly. If he's started some games for Hertha then no doubt call him in. But considering Gooch at least would be smart since he's been immediately implemented into Sheffield's lineup.

Unless Gooch suddenly develops new and previously unseen talents and skills to his game, and/or is an absolutely totally dominating 'force' for Wednesday, I would prefer to see other players who have not yet received the MNT opportunities Gooch already has.

Given our MNT ongoing travails at CB, and given Whitbread's EPL pedigree, he would seem to warrant an opportunity to work with the MNT program.

For me, the question is whether or not you'd want to give a former stalwart one last hoorah, or if you want to give one of the (widely accepted) probable starters in 2018 some early experience. Personally, I'm for the latter but Gooch's experience may be a deciding factor in the minds of the coaching staff, but considering that we're talking about the last available CB slot and that person probably won't see much if any time on the pitch, Brooks should get a taste of what he's working toward for 2018.

I'm not making any predictions, but I never underestimate coaches' desires to have "experience" at CB. Guys like Dooley & Berhalter played at world cups when I thought they were past their. Maybe JK and the Euro guys are different on this issue. But, yeah, you'd have to think that would be quite statement if JK brought someone in like Gooch who hasn't played much for the USMNT in the last few years.

And who was that Portuguese CB guy who played in a couple of world cups and then played for the Galaxy for a couple of years? He was freaking horrible. I mean he was so bad I was embarrassed for him on occasion. Coaches seem to be so reluctant to use replace a young guy with a vet at CB.

A big question for U.S. fans heading into the World Cup is surely on Jozy Altidore and just what is plaguing the young striker at Sunderland.
