I like how the day after I hear Taylor is transferring to the Cypriot league, I read an article articulating how FIFPro is warning players against transferring to Cyprus, Greece or Turkey.

Tony taylor is buried in the farthest deepest of the depth charts for usa and panama.. the fact he is even mentoined on this thread as an option. Also gyau needs to catch on with club before we start discussing him. Wood needs to make it with club also before he gets a wcq call up. Also adu just got one club start he shouldnt be called up either/ I get it zusi isnt the greatest right winger but the options offered are terrible. Personally I think bedoya is a good right wing option on the roster. Truth is with gatt out there arent many right wings behind him that are good enough for this roster other then bedoya zusi and donovan. Even then donovan and zusi can play at right wing but are more cam for their clubs

Gatt as well is not good enough for the USMNT. We have too much talent. Don't need Gatt. Eddie Johnson is the late game speed option. Gatt can't be trusted with another game or even a half.

You only need one Odonkor. Shea seems to have the inside track on that role.

You forget one important player, Cherundolo. He's injured right now but you have to assume he'll be available by the time WC comes around. I agree Lichaj should at least get a look. He's the best option I can see for LB at the moment. Castillo, is a possibility, but I'm not totally comfortable with him. Beasley is only a stop gap right now and is only playing cause of his recovery speed and seems to work decently with FJ right now. Otherwise is Bocanegra comes back, or if Tim Ream is given an opportunity, I don't see any other options.

"I just dont know what he brings that Taylor, Gyau, Adu, Corona, Wood dont bring."

really? you dont know? i am not a huge graham zusi fan but the answer, friends, is PRODUCTION. 14 goals and 31 assists since beginning of 2011. he earned his opportunity with consistent production and has done nothing but make solid consistent contributions with USMNT

pretty sure you can add up the production of ALL the guys mentioned above and whoever else you want to throw in there and still not equal what zusi has done

here is where the idiot "you cant use goal creation as a measure of an offensive soccer players value" and "you cant use statistics in soccer" police will tell us how stupid we are for thinking zusi has earned his spot on this team

i dont think zusi should start, but denying that he has earned his spot on this roster while simultaneously suggesting that guys who do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING for club deserve a spot is just about beyond comprehension

oh, and why is beckerman on the roster? because he gets a job done in the center of the park better than any available CM not named bradley, jones, or kljestan. its that simple

I can tell you. Zusi can cross and do set pieces... As well as play full pitch defense.

None of the players listed above can do that. The key is his full pitch play in addition to his technical skills. And of that list, only Corona is even a reasonable comparison. Corona is still young though and needs to work on his all around game a bit more.

We just don't have an outright RW besides bedoya. And he's not effective enough to take over Zusi. I'm not a huge of Zusi but he gets the job done and I can't argue with that. Besides that I don't know what I say. He's earned his spot as RW and the only person I could see moving him out is Donovan. But I'd rather have Donovan under Jozy. But then there's the question of where to put Dempsey. Just depends on what formation we decide on.

We aren't choosing wingers on their defensive capabilities. We're not playing Bradleyball we're trying to play positive, modern soccer.

As far as set pieces go, Torres is much better...we could put him on the left wing and Dempsey or Donovan on the right. I don't like Torres as a LW but he is figuring out the position and I'd definitely take him over Zusi.

You are right about that list, those aren't good players, but if Adu gets PT in Brazil I would take him over Zusi (assuming his attitude problems are behind him). I'd be willing to see us experiment with guys like Wooten, Wood, and Gyau because I have a feeling they'd have more to offer us than Zusi.

Against opponents outside of CONCACAF I would definitely take Bedoya and Corona over Zusi. I don't rate either of them but they are creative (what we're lacking) and Corona can score from distance (none of our other players can).

There are other options. We could play Shea, Castillo, or Torres on the left wing and move someone else to the right. And Corona and Bedoya are definitely ahead of Zusi on the RW depth chart.

Heck, I'd rather see EJ than Zusi. At least he's really fast (we're trying to play a high-tempo game).

He has worked hard and performed admirably against CONCACAF opponents but we need to look for someone else for Brazil. The thought of him starting there (a very real possibility) is absolutely terrifying.

Chandler wanting to prove his dedication and that he is a quality RB, this is his time. Last chance. If he gets called in and flunks, then its time to look at Lichaj.

warning to anyone telling you a player like joe corona is better than a player like graham zusi:

disregard

looking at last night box scores tells you just about all you need to know:
zusi - scrores game winner in 88th minute to help his team stay near the top of the table. 5th goal on season. has chipped in 6 assists

corona - another 90 minutes... on the bench... for a team that is following up a bottom half of table finish in spring with a poor start (13th) in the fall. joe corona's offensive contribution over spring/fall in liga mx - 0 goals... 0 assists. shocking to see him on the bench

again - listen people. when you see people trying to convince you that players who do not produce or dont play with mediocre teams are better than players who consistently get the job done with good teams... stop reading.

graham zusi's selection for US roster is automatic at this point - and for good reason. and we dont need to be terrified at the prospect zusi on the WC roster. i dont particular like him as a starter, but if he is it will only be because he has earned it by then (well, hopefully)
