Felt like a new thread had to be started since the other one had Serie A speculations.. Anyways This is incredible Donovan turned down a similar offer from Manchester United to stay with the La Galaxy... Gotta give it to him, Should make every usa/galaxy fan like him more... Im sure he would of had an incredible season with Man U..

I wouldn't mind seeing Landon do one more loan spell in Europe. Not because he needs it but solely for the enjoyment that it gives us fans.

Hopefully he changes his mind because during the press conference he said he doesnt want to be loaned out. Would be cool to see LD in the United squad for the winter though.

If you read the article he admits to having talks. Never did he say he received an offer. Players talk to teams all the time, send out feelers. It doesnt mean Man U ever offered him a contract or was going to

Meh, "talks." He obviously is connected to Moyes from his days at Everton - I don't think this has that much weight to it. United is not in much need of a winger and I think, despite Moyes's departure to Old Trafford, that he still has some loyalty to Everton. A loan in the MLS off-season would be great for him, but between Valencia, Young, Nani, Giggs, etc., I just see it very hard for him to go to United (and get some serious playing time).

Transfer or loan? They aren't trasnferring anywhere. They may go on loan but I wouldn't be able to say that with any confidence.

Donovan has already stated that he has no desire to do a loan in MLS' off season, but you never know things may change.

With Dempsey who knows.

I wouldn't doubt one bit that there was Man U. interest in Donovan. Malcolm Glazer is an American and I'm sure he's seen enough Donovan/Galaxy t-shirts on the backs of American kids to know the potential financial benefit of having the top/most recognizable player from the world's largest consumer market-even if he's a bench player. Not too many places the world's most valuable futbol franchise can go for growth. North America is a huge target. Look what Chicharito did for merch sales (and without a great deal of playing time). With Chicharito possibly out the door to Spurs, Donovan starts to look more interesting. Man U has a history of pulling in top internationals from growth markets and giving them just enough playing-time to be seen as active (Kagawa, Park, etc.)This may sound cynical but they're a publically-traded corporation that's looking to drive their stock price like any other. As others have pointed out, it was Moyes who brought Donovan into the EPL. Knowing that his coach is already bought-in on Donovan, I can't imagine Glazer or his front office not at least testing the waters.

But if you're Donovan, why go? Other than getting all the anglophile EPL fan-boys in this country excited about having Donovan anointed by the only league that really matters on this planet (as if), there's not much in it for him. He'd be lucky to see any significant playing time and he'd be hounded by the press as the American show-pony at the big club. Can't see him making much more money either. Better to stay in LA and have his brand continue to grow with MLS. In 3-5 years he'll retire as the face of MLS at a time when that league starts hitting critical mass and be remembered as the guy who was stayed here and built something.

The final stretch of the English league season is upon us, with several Americans on the verge of relegation with their teams.
