??? Players are typically worse after an injury. It would take quite some time to overtake his prior form.

Well cross Gyau off any USMNT friendlies for the next year. Looks like his knee injury/surgery is going to sideline him for another year.

Good luck to him.

Forget next year. This is likely the end of any real chance of becoming a great US player. Maybe in 3-4 years he is serviceable ala Davies but look at guys like Onyewu and Gatt (who just had another setback) and Holden. You almost never come back from a second major injury, never mind just one. I would say its just 50/50 he ever wears the red/white/blue again.

That Sucks another Winger prospect that goes down. I really liked his game and felt he was very close to having a regular spot with Dortmund.

Update on Gyau per Goff:

"Winger Joe Gyau will remain with Borussia Dortmund in his recovery from a knee injury, his father told the Insider. Huddersfield Town in England's second tier had inquired about taking him on loan, but the German side preferred to keep him close. Huddersfield Coach David Wagner was Gyau's guide with Dortmund II."

Looks like Wagner was trying to buy low. Smart move by him. Says something about where Dortmund thinks his recovery is and where he can still end up if they didnt bite.

Gyau just posted this on his personal twitter account:

"After bein in pain for so long with an injury, it's a blessing to finally be pain free.... My apologies to the defenders in advance"

Looks like he's ready to get back to training. I doubt he does anything more than reserve games the rest of the way and he definitely should get the summer off to train with his club but hopefully he starts coming back and can start the 2016-17 season either transferred/loaned to a low level bundes team, top 2.bundes team, or maybe even Holland/France. Good luck to him as he looked ready to burst onto the US team before those lost years.

How awesome would it be to have him get back to his previous form and grow from there reaching his full potential and being a part of Dortmund's first team. Giving the USMNT 2 wingers that play for Dortmund. Would be awesome (won't happen though).

If Gyau returns to full health and ability I'm sure he'd be loaned/sold to a decent/good team. A fully healthy Gyau and an additional year of experience for Pulisic may be good enough that Fabian would be moved back to LB (still a position of considerable need). Leaving Bedoya, Zusi, Zardes Lleget & Finlay fighting it out for backup roles.

-----------------Jozy---------------
--Gyau--------Nagbe-----------Pulisic--
--------Cameron-------Bradley---------
--Fabian-----Brooks-----Miazga-----Yedlin-
---------------Guzan----------------

Bench: Horvath, Yarbrough, Villafana/Shea, Besler, Williams, Hyndman, Wood, Lleget, Zardes....
Still need backups at RCB & RB....leaving 1 spot open for a project/veteran player. This would be a very flexible tournament squad with a number of players able to shift around in case of injury, formation and/or based on who our opponents may be. Team has speed, technical ability and a good mix of experience and youth.
